Student Services
At Jeff Tech, our goal is to provide our students with the answers and resources they need for positive learning experiences. From helping you plan for your future to teaching you how to stay healthy and focused while you’re here, our staff is here to support you.
Guidance Office
The Jeff Tech Guidance Office serves each student in many ways, providing individual counseling to help students set goals and learn to solve their own educational, vocational, and personal problems. Our primary function is to serve students.
Our guidance counselors are here to help our students and their families be successful, lifelong learners. Students and parents should feel free to consult with their counselors at any time during the school year. Take a moment to learn more about:
Counselor Availability
Jeff Tech counselors schedule Individual conferences with each student yearly, along with small group meetings to discuss student interests, abilities, course selections, educational and vocational opportunities, and personal or social concerns.
The counselor is also available one week before the start of school and three days after school commences in June. The Guidance Department also provides informational services and materials for students and parents. Materials available include school and college uncatalogued; employment, vocational, and occupational information; scholarship and financial aid booklets; armed services brochures; and reference information regarding College Board Testing (PSAT, SAT, SAT II, AP) and the American College Testing Program (ACT).
Decision Making
The guidance counselor works very closely with students on decision-making skills. The counselor spends a great deal of time in group and individual counseling, advising students in making sound educational choices.
Counselors monitor student grades and credits to help ensure all students meet graduation and career requirements. Counselors also help students sort through and choose courses appropriate to their career plans.
Vocational Programs & Requirements
Students enroll in 3.5 credits of career and technical training each year. We expect them to complete a program in a minimum of two years in order to obtain a certification in their CTE area. Students must take the state mandated tests (NOCTI, NIMS, NATEF) in each assigned area in order to graduate. Students interested in a shop change must get the required form from their guidance counselor, who will inform students of transfer approvals. Counselors will not make shop changes after the start of a student’s 11th grade year. You must pass two years of your vocational program to graduate.
Student Health
We are fully committed to the health of our students. Our health services staff looks after each student’s physical and mental well being while on our campus.
Jeff Tech Nurse’s Office
The school nurse is an important team member at Jeff Tech. We encourage all students to visit the nurse’s office, located next to Student Services, to discuss health issues during school hours. Before reporting to the nurse's office, except in the case of emergency, students must obtain a pass from an instructor, counselor, or administrator.
The Jeff Tech nurse is available for first aid, illness, and injury treatment. In the case of illness or injury, the nurse will determine if it is medically necessary for the student to go home or to seek medical attention, in which case, the nurse will make the necessary arrangements. Students may not leave school without the permission of the nurse or an administrator.
