Jeff Tech Protective Service Student Places 7th in National Competition

Larry Kirkwood Each year students from all of the Career and Technical Education programs at Jeff Tech have the opportunity to compete at local/regional, state and national levels through the Skills USA Competition.  This year, Jeff Tech is very proud of Larry T. Kirkwood, II a 2012 graduate of the Jeff Tech Protective Service Program. 

Larry competed on the regional level placing 1st in First Aid/CPR which earned him the opportunity to move on to the state competition level in Hershey, PA.  At the state competition Larry placed first and earned the honor to represent the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the National Skills USA Competition in Kansas City.  Larry competed against 37 students from across the United States in the fields of First Aid and CPR.   The competition included a written as well as a performance exam.  Larry finished with the honor of placing 7th in the nation.

During his senior year at Jeff Tech, Larry earned the 2012 Jeff Tech Protective Service Outstanding Student Award and served as the President of the Protective Service program.  He has also earned a variety of certifications in and outside of the classroom. Some of these include EMT, Protection Officer, ICT 100, 200, Red Cross First Aid CPR/AED, Kirkwood in competition. Basic Life Support, PATH Handcuffing, OCAT Pepper Spray and Police Expandable Baton certifications.

Larry has also been active in his home community where he works with the Brockway Ambulance Company as well as assists the Reynoldsville Fire Department as a volunteer fireman.  Larry will continue his training and education at the IUP Police Academy.
