Market and RetailMarketing and Retailing

Marketing and Retailing is a course that is taught to 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.  The curriculum for this course consists of:  marketing math skills, basic math skills, distribution of products/services, wholesalers, advertising of products, customer sales, and personal sales techniques.  Students will also learn to compute payroll for employers, balance registers, order and receive merchandise.

 

Other practical training that the students will receive will be banking, job application writing, resume’ writing, job interview skills, career paper research, and entrepreneurship.

 

Students learn from reading and lecture, but they also learn from projects and hands on experience.  Each student will have the opportunity to learn how to use cash registers, adding machines, balance registers, and wait on customers, store management skills, practice visual merchandising skills and design bulletin boards and posters. 

 

Office Technology plays a large role in Retailing so the students will develop skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, and the Internet.  They also will have the opportunity to use a fax, copier, and scanner in this chosen career/technical area.

 

All Marketing & Retailing students have the opportunity to join DECA, an Association of Marketing Students.  DECA is a career and technical club devoted to promote the well being of the business student through competitions and local activities sponsored by each local chapter.
