Health Assisting
The Health Assisting course is a comprehensive introduction to the vast career opportunities in the health care field. Students will be researching and developing career paths in health care that interest them. Introduction to the many health field career clusters include nursing, medical assisting, mental health, Pharmacy, rehabilitation, dental care, imaging, laboratory and alternative medicine.
There is a severe shortage of nurses in this area and across the United States. Therefore the focus of this program is nursing. Instruction includes procedures for the examination, treatment and care of patients in the nursing home and hospital setting. Students will participate in off site clinical rotations at local nursing homes to further develop these skills. A standard navy blue scrub uniform is required for this program. Students will be prepared for the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Competency Exam after completion of this course.
Students will also be prepared for certificates in CPR, dental radiology, pharmacy technician and home health aide upon satisfactory completion of related programs.
Extensive instruction on the anatomy and physiology of the human body, human growth and development, nutrition, ethics, safety, infection control, and medical terminology will be given. This instruction is designed to prepare any student interested in the health care field by developing the basic skills necessary for a successful career. |
