Introduction to Natural Gas Technology with CDL A View Course Outline HERE
The certification program (Certified Gas Well Tending with CDL Class "A") at Jefferson County DuBois Area Vocational-Technical School, is a 6 week course covering 24 specialized modules regarding various aspects of the natural gas industry and state certified preparation and examination for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Included in the curriculum are four groups of study: General Knowledge, Safety, Gas Well Tending and CDL Class "A” Instruction. In addition, industry regulations pertinent to each area of study are discussed and reviewed. As scheduling permits, industry experts offer their personal insight into the industry and their particular field of expertise.
This program is the first of its kind in the country to utilize a shorter training period so that it may help recently displaced or unemployed workers find a new career path in the natural gas industry. The course is structured to provide a diversification of information in a broad field of study so that the student can receive a sufficient base of knowledge to prepare him or her for a variety of job descriptions.
Upon successful completion students will have their Class A CDL, and the knowledge and ability to work in the gas industry. We will then help place you into a job working in this industry. The average starting wage when working for a gas company is $70,000 to $80,000 a year. There are full benefits, and will take care of you and your family for a long time to come. We are only scratching the surface of Marcellus Shale and there are many years of jobs and work ahead of us. By the year of 2014 there are more than 250,000 jobs projected to be available in Pennsylvania alone.
The course is approved by the State of Pennsylvania, and has been created with the assistance of PIOGA and leaders of the natural gas and oil industries.
