Pre-Calculus (1 Credit or 126 Hours)
Pre-Calculus combines a detailed review of fundamental concepts of algebra with an introduction of new material that will build on the previous information. The course focuses on the following topics: polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions, applications in trigonometry, polar coordinates, conic sections, systems of linear equations and inequalities, sequences and series, probability, vectors and an introduction to calculus. Applications from career and technical areas and other academic areas will be incorporated as appropriate. The idea behind this approach is to allow students to see both practical and abstract uses of mathematics. The course is designed to perform two important functions. The first is to prepare
students for higher level mathematics, with a possible continuation into college. The second is to prepare the students for real-world applications of mathematics in their field of study. These are complementary objectives, since many students may return to school after working for several years, or may need to receive additional education while on the job. |
